Platters Results are out for KWV!
KWV was honoured with multiple top scores from Platter’s by Diners Club South African Wine Guide 2020, launched at Cape Town’s Table Bay Hotel on 8 November 2019. KWV brands secured no less than 22 ratings between the 86 to 95+/ 100 mark, placing them neatly in this annual guide’s ‘Excellent’, ‘Outstanding’ and ‘Superlative’ categories.
This display of quality is additional to KWV’s supreme Brandy achievements, notably it’s limited-edition Centenary Brandy which was scored a formidable 99/100 – the highest rated product in this year’s guide.
Platter’s is one of South Africa’s longest-standing wine guides and measures the quality of South African wines as determined by a seasoned group of professional tasters. Wines and spirits scored 95/100 or more are considered 5-Star. Producers who manage to secure a 5-Star rating are generally considered to represent the pinnacle of South Africa’s wine and spirits industry.
Leading the ratings with the ultimate 5-Star rating of 95/100 or more, are The Mentors Grenache Blanc 2017 and KWV Classic Collection Cape Tawny (non-vintage) – a duo of ratings which portray KWV’s commitment to providing consumers with value and quality at each SKU. The Mentors Grenache Blanc 2017 forms part of KWV’s flagship range and has established itself as one of the most sought-after premium brands from South Africa. KWV’s Classic Collection portfolio provides exceptional drinking pleasure at an affordable price point, and nowhere is this more evident than with KWV’s Classic Collection Cape Tawny – a fortified wine, made in the classic Tawny Port-style, which is gaining a reputation as one of SA’s best examples in the category.
This excellence permeates all KWV’s wine ranges, and this is aptly reflected in the supporting 4.5-Star Platter’s ratings achieved. Here, The Mentors portfolio dominates the cache, with no less than six of its wines rated 90 or more out of a possible 100. These are The Mentors Cabernet Sauvignon Darling 2014, The Mentors Petit Verdot 2016, The Mentors Pinotage 2016, The Mentors Canvas 2016, The Mentors Chenin Blanc 2016 and The Mentors Sauvignon Blanc Elim 2014. In addition, 4.5-Star ratings were awarded to KWV Perold Tributum 2014, Cathedral Cellar Triptych 2016, Laborie Signature 2016 and Laborie Blanc de Blancs 2014.
KWV’s impressive performance in this year’s Platter’s Guide is further supported with 10 respective 4-Star ratings for The Mentors Orchestra 2016, The Mentors Sauvignon Blanc Darling 2015, The Mentors Shiraz 2014, The Mentors Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch 2014, Cathedral Cellar Shiraz 2016, Roodeberg 1949 2017, Roodeberg Dr Charles Niehaus 2017, Cathedral Cellar Chardonnay 2018, Laborie MCC Brut and Laborie Rosé.
KWV CEO Boyce Lloyd said: “KWV is exceptionally proud to have its rich repertoire of excellence across its various wine portfolios so adequately represented in this year’s Platter’s Wine Guide. It certainly gives credence to our mantra of fresh consistency and our constant drive to provide our consumers with excellence they can delight in. This trust is especially important as we embark on the festive season – a time when everyone deserves to extract optimum joy from their wine purchases. The recent Platter’s ratings indicate that KWV certainly achieves this for its consumers with wines that rate high in quality and equally high in their value proposition.”
