A different kind of Sparkling for Easter!

A great article by Fiona Beckett in this weekend's Guardian, the wine critic urges us to get out of our comfort zone or 'think outside the bubble' as she puts it very nicely and try something new.

One of the recommended wines is our award winning Woodfired Sparkling Shiraz made by De Bortoli. This is a style of wine unique to Australia and that you seldom find anywhere else. 

We had chosen to add it to our portfolio at the end of 2018 as consumers' thirst for sparkling wine is growing and we find them being more and more curious to venture outside of Prosecco. Woodfired Sparkling Shiraz is intensely coloured, rich and stunning with chocolate.

This luscious wine is the creation of Steven Webber, who has sourced the berries from Heathcote in Central Victoria, an area known for producing full bodied, premium shiraz.

This cuvee is a blend of two vintages. The reason being the younger vintage brings liveliness and freshness to the wine, while the older vintage gives depth and some maturity. The resultant cuvee then spends a period of time in older French oak casks to further soften and evolve. The sparkling element is achieved through the Charmat method.

The wine is plump and juicy. Bright and deep in colour. Lifted fruit aromas and gentle background spice carry through on the palate.

Fiona describes it as follows: 'Deep black, cherry-flavoured fizz. Scoff with chocolates.' This might be the perfect wine for Easter!
