Montepulciano is an Italian black grape variety grown in central Italy, but notably in eastern Abruzzo, and takes its name from the Tuscan parish of Montepulciano. Globally appreciated for their soft flavours, strong colour and gentle tannins, Montepulciano wines are typically best consumed in their youth and with food.  A firm favourite, and excellent value too, is Dea del Mare Montepulciano de Abruzzo.
