Three British-born Spanish wine producers offering a unique portfolio of wines to the UK market
We are pleased to announce the launch of ‘The Three Amigos’ project, a fresh and flexible opportunity for UK wholesalers, on-trade and independents to source a portfolio of Spanish wines with a point of difference.
The Three Amigos are three British-born Spanish wine producers with a combined total of 62 years’ experience in the international wine industry. Together, they offer a comprehensive portfolio of wines from across Spain, each suited to differing requirements in variety, style or price, with consistently excellent quality.
“Together, we are stronger”, explain The Three Amigos. “We’ve got many bases covered, from competitively priced volume-drivers, to wine list classics based on variety or region, through to some really quirky interest-drivers. Plus, we’re not knocking on doors with the same old brands that everybody has seen before”.
The Three Amigos have partnered with the established UK wine distributor North South Wines, who will provide logistical, administrative and sales support.
“We are delighted to join forces with North South Wines”, comment The Three Amigos. “We want to work closely with UK buyers to supply a range of Spanish wines that is the perfect fit for their requirements, whilst also being flexible in offering a service level that’s the right match for their business model.”
UK buyers will be able to source full or mixed pallets from The Three Amigos, direct from the bodega or from one convenient pick-up point in northern Spain, where all the wines in the portfolio will be stocked. Alternatively, case orders can be delivered promptly throughout the UK from stock held by North South Wines at London City Bond.
Commenting on the launch of the Three Amigos, Joy Edmondson, Buying and Marketing Director at North South Wines says:
“It’s been great fun working with the Three Amigos on the launch of this new project. Robert, Harry and Simon have a fantastic knowledge of Spanish wines and some real points of interest in their combined range, from a pale-dry Provence-style rose from Cariñena to a high-altitude Tempranillo Syrah from Andalucía, and there are more exciting wines on the way.”
The Three Amigos are:
Robert Hunter (a.k.a. Lucky Day) has lived and worked in the wine industry in and around Barcelona since 1989. Having worked for Miguel Torres and Castillo Perelada, he founded his own production company in 2005. He now produces a comprehensive range of wines across the North, Central and the South Eastern areas of Spain.
Robert’s ‘Campos de España’ range, which consists of six wine brands, offers a streamlined journey through the overly complex Spanish DO system, via an easy-to-understand patchwork of grape varieties, matched to the major climatic regions. More recently, a complementary portfolio of ‘Village Wines’ was created in collaboration with winemakers from very specific villages in the more famous regions of Spain: Rioja, Ribera del Duero and Priorat.
Simon Tyrrell (a.k.a. Dusty Bottoms) has spent over twenty-five years in the wine trade working initially in distribution and latterly in production in France and Spain. After studying wine production at Plumpton College in the UK, Simon went on to purchase a vineyard in the Rhône Valley, as well as starting a negoçiant business in the region. He also manages two exciting new wine making projects in Spain, in the emerging regions of Yecla in the south-east and the Sierra de Gredos, west of Madrid.
Harry Hunt (a.k.a. Ned Nederlander) is also a graduate of Plumpton, having left a 17-year career in Public Relations to study wine production. In 2010 he founded Bodegas Tierra Hermosa, the first negociant-style producer of its kind in Andalucía, southern Spain. Harry collaborates with local grape growers and small independent wineries to create a contemporary range of wines from across Andalucía, all under his Tierra Hermosa brand. Most recently, his ‘ANDA’ brand has become the only red wine from Andalucía to be stocked by a UK supermarket chain, Waitrose.
