What a week it's been for Waimea - a great haul of medals PLUS meeting the Royal Family.
Every year kiwi wine lovers eagerly await the results of the Air New Zealand Wine Awards to help them with their selection of quality New Zealand wine. Gold & Silver Medal results are announced on 10 November and Pure Elite Gold Medal and Trophy winners will be announced at the Black Tie Air New Zealand Wine Awards Dinner to be held in Nelson for the first time ever at Saxton Stadium on 28th November. Waimea was delighted to find out that the Waimea Albariño 2015 has been awarded Pure Gold whilst the flagship Waimea Sauvignon Blanc 2015 and Waimea Pinot Gris 2015 were both awarded Pure Silver.
Following on from their awards success, Ben and Anna Bolitho of Waimea Estates were fortunate enough to have their Waimea Sauvignon Blanc 2015 selected to serve to Their Royal Highnesses Prince Charles & the Duchess of Cornwall at Nelson’s ‘From Source To Serve’ event on Saturday during their only wine and food sojourn whilst touring New Zealand.

As Nelson is the largest fishing port in Australasia, it was fitting that Waimea Sauvignon Blanc was matched to Ora King Salmon and went down a treat with the royal party.
A little-known fact is that Her Royal Highness is President of The United Kingdom Vineyards Association, so a visit to one of New Zealand’s premier wine regions – and sampling one of its most awarded Sauvignon Blancs was very apt.
